Sunday morning, after meeting Grandma and Grandpa for church, a stop at Domingo’s Italian Deli. In the kitchen is mom with her apron on, making breakfast — here comes the onions, garlic, tomato paste, tomato sauce, meatballs and sausage frying. The smells fill the house with memories. Who’s coming for dinner? Both sides of the family, and friends, too, who are family even to this day. Greet everyone and acknowledge (hugs and kisses) them when they arrive. Adult table and a kids table close by; you can hear the family history and today’s news of weddings, births, deaths, sickness — and who needs help next week with plumbing, electrical, cement or anything else.
That’s how we were brought up: with respect, love and trust, and to cherish relationships and togetherness. These are the values that form the foundation of Prutch Family Imports. Respect for the people around us and who we meet. Relationships that we have built with family, friends, suppliers in Sicily and our customers. By building those relationships with our customers, we build trust, and with that, the basis of family. That trust is built through transparency, quality and consistency of products and service. Lastly, love is evident in that we love what we do to bring together people and exceptional products so that chefs everywhere can transform and translate that into fulfilling their vision of bringing people together and sharing their creativity of food and joy.
Today, family members do not always live in proximity to each other. At Prutch Family Imports, we encourage people to expand their definition of family to help create a sense of connection and belonging with their community.
Welcome to our family.
Family History: Why Sicily and What’s in a Name?
Prutch – my paternal grandfather was born G. Puccio in Agrigento, Sicily, Italy. He married V. Parrino (Parrino’s from the Messina province). Their livelihood was farming and herding animals. Verbal family history noted several derivations of Puccio until it became Prutch.
My maternal grandfather, S. Sammartino, was born in Agrigento, Sicily, Italy. He married P. Corsentino (Corsentino’s from Agrigento, Sicily, Italy). They were farmers, cheesemakers, and herders.
That connection with Sicily runs deep as does the love of the land and all it produces.
